Where Things Stand Today – November 7, 2012

The Presidential election for 2012 is now history.

Each campaign season we hear numbers thrown out about gas prices were this, mortgage rates were this, unemployment was this…etc.  I decided to put somethings down in writing for my own verification in 4 years.  While the numbers I find may not be the real numbers (who knows what’s real and what’s not anymore!), I think this will give me a truer idea of where things stood TODAY versus what they will be claiming in 2016.

I realize that this information is probably as subjective as any candidate’s declaration.  However, hopefully we can return to these same sources in 3 or 4 years and see how things compare.

So here they are, with the source:

Gasoline prices (Denver Metro area) – Regular $3.37 (personal observation); average seems to be $3.46 from GasBuddy

The West is Burning

Here is a map to give you all an idea of how many fires there are in the western part of the United States.  As of last night at 10:30 p.m. there were 13 in Colorado alone.

Be careful everyone!!!

Just Checking in...

Not much going on these days, but thought I would write a post anyway.  Life is feeling pretty good.  There are some bumps in the road (aren't there always?), but I'm loving life.  I don't know that I've really ever felt that way.

I hope you're finding your way through life and are happy as well.

Half Way Through a Century

How do you mark such a momentous day in one's life?  Today is the last day of the first half of a century of living for me.  Tomorrow at this time I will be waking and facing the fact that I am 50 years old.

A year or two ago, based on where my life was, this date might have bothered me tremendously.  Today I'm pretty happy with where my life is and I'm ready to take on the next half-century.

To all those who's paths have crossed with mine throughout my life, thank you for what you have added to my life, good or bad.  I truly believe that all of the events in your life make you the person that you are.  How you choose to use those events is up to you.  You can dwell on the negative and let the bad events ruin your life, or you can deal with them and move forward.

There are definitely events (and events that never were) in my life that have made me angry or hurt tremendously, but what good does it do me to continually dwell on them?  I am choosing to be happy and live my life to the best of my ability.  With the help of people I love…and that love me, I can be happy with what I have and what I can do.  And I still have a lot of living to do, so here’s to another half-century!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!!

My dear,

Holding a grudge is letting someone live rent-free in your head.
They don’t pay rent; clean the dishes, take out the trash, or do anything else to make your head-space better by being there.
Do to them what any landlord does to an unruly tenant; KICK THEM OUT! Let go of the grudge.

Falsely yours,

A. Nonymous

One Week Gone

Well, here we are, January 9, 2012.  How was the first week of your new year?  Nothing too exciting in my week, but nothing traumatic either.

What do you have going on this year?  My big even this year is that I will be turning 50 years old in 39 days!  WOW!  HALF A CENTURY!  I'm not sure I'm ready for that, but it's definitely better than the alternative!!!

Beyond my birthday, we a several family reunions coming up this summer (all in one weekend!!!).  Although I haven't always looked forward to them with much enthusiasm, I'm learning to enjoy them.  Especially after connecting with a cousin at one a couple of years ago who has become a good friend over the last couple of years.

House hunting is still a big thought on my mind, but we'll have to see how the financial market goes.  I'm liking where I'm at with my friend and we seem to have a pretty good thing going.  I don't want to mess up that relationship, so we'll just have to see how things go.

I'm pretty sure that work will present new and hopefully exciting challenges. Our team is regrouping after the exit of the man that was my supervisor from the day I was hired.  We also have a new(er) manager.  He's been with us for about 6 months, but with all of the things going on he hasn't had a chance to really take charge yet.  This will be a challenge for all of us.

So, to all of you, I hope that your first week of the new year was a good one.  I hope that your year is a good and positive one!
